"Fighting Child Hunger One Spike At A Time"
We created the Spike Hunger Challenge® and partnered with The Bridge Ministry to help feed children dealing with hunger. When we found out there are over 3,000 children going to bed hungry at night (especially on the weekends) in our community, we had to be a part of the solution. The Bridge Ministry currently feeds 2,300 children each week through the Bridge to Kids program and together we are going to change that number! We can't leave any child out! It only takes $1 a day or $365 a year to add a child to the program and that's when we decided to help one spike at a time. We are Lipscomb Bisons...we are mighty and we are determined! We are a team who has decided to take our passion for volleyball and use it to serve the less fortunate. At Lipscomb, we are big into service and leaving a legacy. The Spike Hunger Challenge® will be a way for us to serve hungry children and pass the baton to those who come behind us. They too can carry on the tradition of serving. Our goal is to get friends, family, and businesses to sponsor us for each spike (kill) from one game, specific games, or for the entire season. We are also going to encourage other teams to join us in the Spike Hunger Challenge®. We need all the help we can get because the children deserve all the help we can give. - LUV
MEET CANDY CHRISTMAS | FOUNDER/CEO The Bridge Ministry, Inc.
Candy Christmas is the Founder/CEO of The Bridge Ministry. Candy has spent her life giving to others through music. She began her career as an adolescent, and quickly climbed to the top of the Christian charts. Later, she married and happily settled into family life, but she wanted a way to continue her ministry of giving. Her heart’s desire is to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. That is what prompted her to start The Bridge Ministry with her husband Kent Christmas in 2004.
ABOUT THE BRIDGE MINISTRY:
Church Under the Bridge
Every Tuesday at 6 p.m. under the Jefferson Street bridge, The Bridge Ministry serves between 350 to 500 poor and homeless individuals. We provide a hot meal, groceries, hygiene items, and clothing to every guest in attendance. In addition to meeting natural needs, The Bridge Ministry also meets spiritual needs by ministering the Gospel in Word and song.
Bridge to Kids
In addition to children’s programming under the bridge on Tuesday nights, The Bridge Ministry provides weekend food bags for food insecure and homeless children. During the 2016-17 school year, we partnered with 20 schools and aftercare programs to feed 1,100 children each week. Over the summer, we were in 21 programs and fed 1,780 children each week. For the 2017-18 school year, we have partnered with over 30 schools and aftercare programs and are feeding 2,300 children each week.
Bridge to You
The Bridge Ministry partners with over 20 local ministries, who need support, that have outreaches in their communities, by assisting them with food, clothing and hygiene items.
